The video, "Mr Winkle Wakes" is a clever spoof of the old Rip Van Winkle tale. After awaking from a hundred year nap Mr. Winkle walks to an office, a hospital, and a school. The business office is full of computers with printers and web cam conferences. Technology has taken over almost every facet of business dealings. Mr. Winkle also goes to a hospital where once again he is surprised to find a plethora of new technologies including heart monitors and respiratory machines.
Once again Mr. Winkle feels completely out of touch with the daily operations of the modern life. It is almost as if technology has slipped into every area and made drastic changes. Finally Mr. Winkle visits a school. The class and overall structure of the education setting is exactly the way he remembers it being before his nap. This video was very enjoyable and really drives home the fact that jobs in education will always be needed, and are immune to the exponential growth of technology. The world will always need teachers as long as there are children to teach. Also, technology will never fully replace a real teacher because teaching is an art that is ever evolving and impossible to mimic.
