Blog week 4 2/7
This week's blog assignment was extremely helpful in adding to my knowledge of how to make a successful podcast. The various guidelines to compose a good podcast are discussed as well as highlighting the importance and impact of podcasts on the learning environment. It is another opportunity for projects and presentations as well as allowing another way for parents to stay involved with their child's education. Podcasts also allow for higher order thinking skills.
I definitely enjoyed listening to the various podcasts. I will be completely honest and say that this was my first exposure to podcasts. Since I found out about podcasts I have been all over itunes checking out various topics that really interest me. I am really interested in exploring the world of podcasts and learning alot of new interesting information.

Blog Assignment 1/31
Here's whats coming...
This video was absolutely hilarious. A one year old playing with an iphone at first might not sound that interesting but it was. The way the child said unlock when it was time to unlock the phone was too funny. It was truly eye opening to see a one year old properly using an iphone and scrolling through photos when my seventy-two year old grandma is unable to do it.
This video is a testament to the extent of technology's reach. By the time this child is of school age the technology that is out and his ability to use and understand these technologies that the older generations of teachers who have stood by and watch technology go by without them, will be obsolete. Today's world is new and ever changing, one must constantly be learning "the new thing" or they will find themselves left behind.
Little Kids... Big Potential
This video blew my mind! The first graders in Ms. Cassidy's class are unbelievably equipped with technology tools. These children are displaying mastery of new technologies that the majority of forty year-old adults do not even grasp. The possibilities for these children are virtually endless and show that an even more accelerated and spreading of technology is sure to come.
The development of new technologies is sure to vastly expand the avenues that teachers can use to have education flourish in these youth's lives. It seems that by the time I finish my education and start my career as a teacher the face of technology will not just be altered but truly evolved into something else completely. It is good to see that there are teachers and programs who are utilizing modern technologies in the classroom and equipping children with many skills.
Media Literacy
This video was another Cassidy classroom classic. I really enjoyed the little boy and his description on the proper etiquette guidelines for commenting. It is so encouraging to see children that already have a good grasp on current technology and are able to utilize this knowledge to enrich their daily lives.
It seems that the transition of paper out of the classroom is slowly starting to come to fruition as more technologies develop and become affordable. In fact the course I am writing this blog for is a green course. If children are blogging and socializing on the internet in elementary school one can only attempt to imagine what possibilities will arise in the years to come.
Four podcasts...
The first podcast I listened to was "MacBreak Weekly". Pretty much the whole of this podcasts' content was dealing with speculation of Apple's new ipad. The setup of this podcast is pretty much like a radio program. I really enjoyed the casual conversation flow that exists amongst the hosts. It seems like maybe they just had a few topics written out and then just moved through them throughout the podcast.
The second podcast I listened to was "This week in photography". I really enjoyed this outline of a more controversial program, it was about racism. I want to be sure and stay away from to serious of a podcast. I know after listening to these podcasts that when i do my own I will definitely incorporate humor into my discussion.
I also listened to Edtech weekly. I really think that I will be doing my podcast on the hit television show Lost if that is possible. I know that I want to be knowledgeable of all information discussed in podcast so that I do not misspeak. I think that a good introduction to the podcast is essential and am considering incorporating music into mine.
I really enjoyed this assignment. I am positive it will really aid me in creating my own podcast for this class. Observing the different dynamics and formulas different individuals implicate in making their podcast is very fascinating. Making podcasts has really earned an important impact in today's information sharing and socialization.

Blog assignment week 2
A Vision of Students Today.
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought the camera work and the series of messages to be captivating and enjoyable. The movie does a great job at capturing the college experience especially from a large classroom perspective. I found that when a girl had written on her sign that she has to be multitasking in order to make it, to be really true and easy for me to relate to.

If I were to add some things to the video to help better represent the college experience I would show the long walk from an available parking space to the class. I would have placed this at the beginning of the video and had it been a smooth transition from the walk into class to up to the desk and the writing on the wall. However, I really enjoyed the video and thought that the majority of it accurately represented the college experience.
It's Not About the Technology
First off i would like to say that this blogs' message of teachers must be learners is one of the most important principles that myself and fellow future teachers must embrace. It is true that technology is exponentially expanding at an incredibly fast rate, but it is not all about technology. The blog even points out that technology is useless without good teaching. However, I feel that good teaching is hindered from reaching its full potential without being able to effectively use technology and incorporating it into the curriculum.
Today's children are being plunged into an ever growing technological world. These children will grow and learn throughout their education and most will have jobs that currently do not even exist. When it comes to incorporating technology, if it is done successfully, the possibilities in the classroom are endless. It may not be a necessity to be technologically literate, but future teachers would do well to ensure that they have at least a good understanding.
Fisch: Is it ok to be a technologically illiterate teacher?
This post was very interesting and shows how opinions can come across too strong. I do agree with the idea that teachers should be technologically literate, but the wording of this post seemed to express that it was a crucial requirement instead of a useful addition. Comparing technological literacy to regular literacy is more than a stretch. I recognize the abundance of technology in daily lives and communications but it can in no way be required as a must know when it comes to many areas of teaching.
For example while technology offers new ways to express art to the world it is not the best approach to teaching a child to paint or form a sculpture. Technology may aid and in fact be a more important teaching tool in some areas of education like this class for example. However children have been learning their colors and multiplication tables for centuries without technology and if computers disappeared off the face of the earth tomorrow it is safe to say that teaching could and would continue without missing a beat, perhaps the only field that could truly say that.

This social media counts is breathtaking. It is a true testament to the times we are living in and just how quickly technology is expanding in our world. The numbers continually grow and everyday children begin to dive into technology adding even more numbers to the count. It seems surreal that this many new accounts, posts, and items being purchased can in fact be going on. I can not even comprehend what new technologies will be out and available in five years or to be honest even next year.
With so many new technologies being developed one must really submerge themselves on almost a daily basis. With the unveiling of Apple's Tablet the world is soon to experience yet another revolution in the technological world. Predictions have been made that the Tablet will impact every occupation and every life across the world. The future will truly be breathtaking as we witness science fiction items of the past sitting in our hands and laps.

Harness your students' digital smarts
In this video the teacher Vicki Davis talks about the importance of educating students in the constantly expanding world of technology. She has taken her class in rural Georgia and connected them with the world. Technology is growing more and more every day and new jobs that have never existed are popping up around the world. Having students that are able to comprehend and function today's technologies will give them an edge at learning the technologies of tomorrow.
The students in this class also work on blogs like our class. Every semester of school there are children who did not learn one new thing about technology and yet the face of technology has morphed several times during the same period of time. Technology is stretching its' wires and cables into practically every field and market. I agree with Vicki Davis in that one of the main focuses of education in today's world should be on technology.

Ken Robinson on the importance of creativity
I absolutely loved this video. Ken Robinson delivered a wonderful speech about creativity and the way it is being diminished in today's educational systems. Mr. Robinson really made excellent points for his argument and one can tell that he has a solid understanding and true passion for the topic. It is very true that education places very little value in the arts and more on correct answers to test questions. If children are continually drawn away from the arts for the sake of pursuing book knowledge then it is inevitable that imagination and creativity will suffer and diminish.
Mr. Robinson incorporated many quality examples throughout the speech such as that of a young girl dancer whom thanks to their teacher went on to become responsible for some of the most successful productions in theater history. It is disturbing to think of all the talents that have been stamped out of so many youths due to authority figures discouraging the child's true passions and talents for more book knowledge and standardized testing. I will do my best to remember this speech when I enter teaching and always try to never discourage imagination or creativity out of a child's mind or heart.

Did you know 3.0
I just watched the video "Did you know? 3.0" and it was fascinating. It is hard to even comprehend the fast pace at which technology is growing in the world. By the time I have children and they are grown the world will have almost completely changed. Instead of sitting around with new technologies coming about rarely, as humans have done for a couple millenniums, today's world is one in which new technologies and advances in science and medicine are coming out almost every day.
It will be interesting to see just how deeply new technology will affect the coming years. Many speculate that when Apple releases its' new "tablet" that this new device will be a world changer and lead people into an even more accelerated rate of producing new technologies. It is clear that the United States has fallen drastically behind in education as well as many other areas in the rankings of countries. Only time will tell if it is even possible for us to regain our top spot, or if we can even catch up.
